DERBY'S

A derby is a boot or shoe type distinguished by quarters with shoelace

eyelets sewn on top of the vamp. This type of design, also known as "open lacing," contrasts with the oxford's process. The derby shoe can be called a blucher in American English, although the blucher is actually a different shoe model in which only eyelet tabs (not larger quarters) are sewn on a single piece vamp. In modern time English, when the upper is made of buckskin, the derby shoe can be called "bucks." The looser tightened laces allow for more freedom of movement in both appearance and fit.
